What is EXCEL9O?
EXCEL90 is a 90-day program designed to take your nutrition, fitness, and mental game to the next level! The whole point of the 90-day program is to create lifelong habits that ensure health, not just quick fixes. The 90 days will be split into 3, 30-day blocks. The 1st 30 days revolves around the Nutrition Block. The 2nd will be the Fitness Block, while the 3rd 30 rounds out with the Mindset Block.
From February 1st to May 1st we will be posting articles, recipes, and tips from the experts on our blog and social media outlets. Follow us to get the most out of the program and become your healthiest YOU!
Why are we starting in February?
According to statistics, 43% of New Year’s resolutions will not even last 1 month! By starting in February, we give you time to create your personal resolutions in January. If they start to waver after a month, that’s when EXCEL90 kicks in! We’re there to keep you on track! This will rejuvenate your resolution and help you achieve your goals with an amazing support system of other participants looking to better themselves.
What are the Excel90 blocks?
The #1 New Year’s resolution by both men and women is to become fit and healthy. The #2 resolution? Lose weight. See a trend? This day and age, we are so concerned with our health and appearance, yet do not know how to create long lasting habits to achieve such results. One of the biggest, and most common, complaints we hear here at Excel is, “I keep working out and trying this and that, but I’m still not seeing the results!” Now let me preface with this: looks are not everything! I completely understand that just because someone may “look healthy,” does not necessarily mean they are taking care of their body, and vice versa. On the other hand, most people try to improve their health by solely focusing on fitness. Unfortunately, if your nutrition and eating habits do not improve, you might not see the gains and benefits you’re going for.
Therefore, EXCEL90 is kicking things off with our Nutrition Block. We want to help you, step-by-step, get your diet and nutrition in line to help you achieve your goals and New Year’s resolutions. Again, the goal of EXCEL90 and the Nutrition BLOCK is to do something, anything, EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. The only way we will create lasting effects is if we turn quick fixes into lifelong habits.
Maybe you try starting your day with a protein-packed breakfast to ramp up your metabolism, or substitute natural almond butter for JIF peanut butter, or opt for a glass of water at lunch instead of a Diet Coke. The Nutrition Block will constantly be sharing healthy recipes, great alternatives to our “cheat meals,” and ways to stay healthy in the office and in your social life!
Whatever your personal goals are to improve your nutrition, stick with it! We will be there every step of the way sharing our knowledge and expertise in case you need ideas or feel like you’re losing steam. If you try your best every day for 30 days, we will create the lifelong habits together and see the improvements you’ve been striving for!
The second phase of EXCEL90 is the Fitness Block! Does the 30-day Fitness Block mean we will do 30 consecutive days of CrossFit? ABSOLUTELY NOT! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), physical fitness is defined as “the ability to carry out daily tasks with vigor and alertness, without undue fatigue, and with ample energy to enjoy leisure-time pursuits and respond to emergencies.” Nowhere does this say that you must be able to complete 20 pull-ups, 100 sit-ups, or even step foot in a gym.
There are hundreds of ways to increase your fitness—from the gym to a cubicle at work. This Fitness Block is designed to get you up and moving. The whole goal of EXCEL90 is to do SOMETHING every day for 90 days.
The Fitness Block will be jammed packed with exercise routines, office ergonomic tips, ways to incorporate fitness into your normal daily activities, and so much more! We will be interviewing health professionals around town, as well as holding free classes for our participants!
Have you wanted to try weight training, yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, or martial arts, but were too scared to try, or didn’t even know how to begin? This is your chance to dive in and try something new! We are going to be interviewing different fitness instructors from a variety of disciplines each week to give you a comprehensive view on many options that are readily available to you.
One day of the Fitness Block, you may go for a 1-mile walk, or decide to take a Beginner’s Zumba class at the YMCA, or even take a day to plan your week of workouts. These are all EXCELLENT ways to spend your days during the first 30-days.
Our final 30-day Block is based on mindfulness. The World Health Organization’s definition of health is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The first 2 blocks in EXCEL90 have focused on improving our nutrition and fitness, but our emotional and spiritual well-being is an incredibly important aspect of overall health.
We all know the feeling when a relationship is not going well, we’re stressed with a work deadline, or having an argument and not being able to let go of a grudge. These emotional and chemical stressors bring our health down and leave us susceptible to disease and illness. We need to be able to cope with these stressors to ensure proper health. The Mindful Block is designed to help us reconnect within; to help us learn to appreciate ourselves again and be thankful for all the good we have in our lives.
During this Block, we’ll be sharing tips on how to start your day better and cope with the obstacle and stressors that you face. Whether through meditation, positive affirmations, mindful yoga, reciting a poem or prayer, or a ton of other strategies, we will help complete our journey towards health and wellness through balancing our nutrition, fitness, and mindfulness.
